I saw these 2 threads with settings too 1 2 Low cloud visibility matters for ground level too I think as high altitude clouds aren't rendered. If Live METAR is not interesting a custom METAR or re-rolling existing pre-set may be more interesting. As I mentioned, pressing apply re-rolls hidden parameters even for Live METARs, convection slider matters, METARS are horribly lacking in detail and constrained in time and space. I have had almost no flying since then, so no new info. I wrote what little I knew last year, in the hope others can tweak and have better flying (and post screens making full use of FG to cue more people to tweak settings ). I wouldn't mind knowing good NVIDIA control panel options, and other advanced FG settings too Thorsten or someone is better placed to answer (I was typing my reply before I saw he posted). The weather scale parameters in advanced settings matters. My impression was increasing lods helped. In older times, and in other simulations, large 2d photos of clouds or 3d cloud fields are placed anywhere & photos of sky are used for backdrops AIUI. (Btw, physics of individual wing vortices can be enabled in Flightgear and can interact with other craft). Cloud formation is the result of terrain nvective heating (small scale thermals, large scale circulations), moisture & aerosol sources and sinks, Coriolis effects, and weather caused by planetary boundary layer effects of terrain just like the boundary layer between aircraft surfaces and the free-stream that determines aerodynamics - Karman vortex shedding by islands 1 and wing 2. Without turbulence modeling, terrain driven convective phenomena, one of the vids is almost like drifting in a vacuum.Ĭlouds need terrain to be loaded first?. Will watch rest when I get a chance (later). Just missing a real flight as 4th option. May need to lower bitrate to ~480p or lower on slower connections.
